Reopening Theatres: What to Expect

Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Sanitizing

What are you doing to ensure cleanliness?

We have instituted changes to our cleaning regimen to set an even higher standard of cleanliness for the theatres.   Specific areas of focus include:

Surface Areas: In public spaces, the company has added to its already rigorous cleaning protocols, requiring that surfaces are treated with disinfectants and that this cleaning is done with increased frequency.  This includes all self-serve soda stations, tables, counters, cooler doors, and any other guest facing surface.

Auditorium Seating:  In auditoriums, we have added to our thorough cleaning practices, requiring that all seats be thoroughly cleaned with disinfectant between uses. 

Restrooms:  Restrooms will undergo full cycles of disinfecting multiple times per day.  In between the full disinfecting cycles, the bathrooms will be thoroughly cleaned.  A staff member will be available to monitor restroom cleanliness and ensure social distancing practices are being followed.

Are you cleaning seats in auditoriums between shows?

Seats will be cleaned using a disinfectant between each show. 

How are you ensuring restroom cleanliness?

Restroom attendants will be present to clean stalls after use.  We will also be installing touchless faucets, soap dispensers, and paper towel dispensers at all locations.

Guest Experience

How is Marcus Theatres reducing contact between guests and employees?  

We have added new technology, updated service procedures, and added plexiglass barriers in areas, all to reduce person-to-person contact.  Here are the specific ways you will see this in place in the various aspects of your Marcus Theatres experience. 

Prior to Arrival:  Online ordering capabilities are available and encouraged.  At all 91 of our locations, guests can order tickets, concessions and food & beverage items via our app or website.  These items can then be picked up at a designated location within the theatre.

At the Theatre: We have signage outside our buildings, in the entrances, and throughout the theatre to remind guests to maintain social distancing protocols.  Face masks are required to be worn except when eating or drinking. All furniture will be moved to ensure social distancing is in place.  We have added Plexiglass to the box office and concession areas to provide an extra level of precaution for its guests and associates.

How will you encourage social distancing?

We have implemented new guidelines to accomplish this:

  • We will continue to offer and encourage curbside popcorn and food pick up.
  • We have limited showtimes with tickets for sale via our App and Marcustheatres.com. You are encouraged to buy tickets online to minimize traffic at our box office and kiosks.
  • We have reduced capacity in all auditoriums and have staggered movie start times to allow a definitive number of customers in the theatre. 
  • We will direct the flow of guests to maintain 6 feet.  social distancing spacing and limit the forming of lines

Are there new seating arrangements in the auditorium to allow for social distancing?

We will still offer reserved seating, however capacity will be limited in the auditoriums.  There will be two empty seats between groups.  If you have any concerns about your seat location when you arrive at the theatre, please stop at the box office and ask to speak to a manager.  

Can I order my tickets or food and beverage online?

Yes, you can and are encouraged to order tickets and your food and beverage items via the Marcus Theatres App or our website.

Do I need to print my tickets at a kiosk or the box office if I have purchased tickets online?

There is no need to print your tickets, if you bought tickets online or via the Marcus Theatres App, you can head straight to the ticket taker stand when you arrive.

Can I still make purchases at the kiosk, box office, and concession stand?  

Yes, all areas of the theatre will be open and will be disinfected frequently.  We do encourage the use of technology to reduce person-to-person contact as much as possible.  

Will you be offering in-theatre dining service or delivery to seat?

At this time all food and beverage orders will be picked up in a designated area.

Will you offer table service in the bar?  

At this time all bar orders must be placed at the bar for pick up only. 

Will you have hand sanitizer available for guests to use?

There are hand sanitizing stations around the theatres, near the entrance, concession stands, Take Five lounges and restrooms.  We will also have sanitizing wipes available in the hallway for guest use.

Processes & Requirements

How is Marcus ensuring safe food handling?

At Marcus, food handlers and managers are trained on safe food preparation and service practices. The company’s food and beverage operations are required to conduct self-inspection using its food safety standards as guidelines.  We have also enhanced sanitation guidelines and created training videos for associates that include hygiene and disinfecting practices. In addition, the company is modifying its operational practices with food pick-up to reduce the amount of face-to-face contact between associates and guests.

Are guests required to complete a health screening or wear a mask?

We require all guests to wear a mask when in the building except when eating or drinking.  We will not complete health screenings of guests, but do encourage any guest who has been exposed to COVID-19 or is experiencing symptoms to stay at home. 

Are you doing any health screening of your associates?

Yes.  All associates are required to complete a fit-for-duty acknowledgement form, along with a temperature check prior to every shift when they arrive at work.  Any associates who is sick will be required to stay home.

Will you be offering in-theatre dining service or delivery to seat?

At this time all food and beverage orders will be picked up in a designated area.

Will associates be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE)?

Yes.  All associates will be required to wear masks and will wear gloves in certain roles.

Refunds

If I don’t feel comfortable coming to the movie theatre after I’ve purchased a ticket, can I get a refund?

Yes.  Refunds are available up until 1 hour before showtime via the Marcus Theatre App, your email confirmation, or via the website at this link www.MarcusTheatres.com/Refunds or in-person at the Box Office.  

If I am not feeling well, can I get a refund?

If you are not feeling well, refunds are available up until 1 hour before showtime via the Marcus Theatre App, your email confirmation, or via the website at this link www.MarcusTheatres.com/Refunds if you did not purchase your ticket online, please call the theatre box office or email ask@marcustheatres.com for your refund.  

Magical Movie Rewards, Expired Promotions & More

Will you be extending the expiration period for Magical Movie Rewards points and Rewards dollars for the period theatres were closed?

We are extending the expiration date for loyalty points and rewards into 2021. Watch our website, social media and your email for an announcement on re-starting the clock on points and reward expiration and resuming the regular rules of the loyalty program. Your points and rewards will be valid for 180 days from that date and will not expire if you have qualifying activity during that time.   

I have a 2020 Ultimate Popcorn Tub. Will you be extending the expiration date?

Yes! The benefits of the 2020 Ultimate Popcorn Tubs have been extended through all of 2021.
