Marcus Story

The Marcus Corporation was founded by Ben Marcus in 1935 with the opening of a single movie theatre in Ripon, Wisconsin. This marked the start of what would become one of the nation’s leading entertainment and lodging companies. Today, The Marcus Corporation is a publicly held company listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol MCS. Ben’s son, Stephen H. Marcus, is chairman emeritus of the company, while Stephen’s son, Gregory S. Marcus, is chairman, president, and chief executive officer of The Marcus Corporation.

The Marcus Corporation has two divisions, Marcus Theatres and Marcus Hotels and Resorts. Marcus Theatres® is the fourth largest theatre circuit in the United States and currently owns or operates 79 locations in 17 states under the Marcus Theatres, Movie Tavern® by Marcus and BistroPlex brands, and one family entertainment center in Wisconsin.

Marcus Theatres’ facilities are leaders in their markets, offering the latest amenities and technology in stadium seating, digital sound, innovative food and beverage concepts and 72-feet-wide UltraScreen DLXs®. 

The Marcus Corporation’s full-service lodging division, Marcus Hotels and Resorts, currently owns or manages 16 hotels and resorts in eight states. With expertise in management, development and renovations, Marcus Hotels and Resorts has assembled a distinctive portfolio of properties including urban and suburban hotels, upscale resorts and historic properties. Some of these include the Pfister Hotel, Hilton Milwaukee City Center and Saint Kate in Milwaukee, Wis.; the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva, Wis.; the Hilton Madison at Monona Terrace in Madison, Wis.; and The Platinum Hotel & Spa in Las Vegas, Nev.
